A foreign language is extremely important when looking for a new job and even more so in everyday life. Knowledge of English is needed for most jobs nowadays but most of all it allows you to travel freely.

As we know, knowledge of foreign languages is extremely important in today’s world. We use them every day, when travelling or at work. The European Commission has checked that the most popular language to learn among Poles is English, which is spoken by almost 19% of the population. In second place – 13% – is German and in third place is Russian, which is spoken by almost 12% of our citizens

The job market and knowledge of foreign languages

In our everyday functioning one language is essential. However, it is worth to know another one. It can make things easier. Speaking a second foreign language at a communicative level increases your competitiveness when applying for a new job and gives you more opportunities if you want to look for work abroad

A good command of English opens up many opportunities for candidates in highly developed countries. Opportunities for work, education or business development – for all these you need at least a communicative level of English. Especially in countries such as England, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand or somewhat less obvious countries such as the Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Ireland or Jamaica. There English serves as the main/official language

On the other hand, fluency in a second language such as German, French, Italian, Spanish, Swedish or Greek, may be far superior to someone applying for a position in industries that use different languages on a daily basis, such as marketing, finance, retail or IT.

Social relations and language learning

Family and social relationships have a big influence on the choice of a foreign language to learn. When we want to communicate efficiently with our closest ones or we meet a foreigner who becomes close to us, we have to break the barrier and polish the foreign language to maintain the relationship and communicate more efficiently. Knowledge of more than one foreign language makes it much easier to establish contacts and maintain long-term relationships.

Hobbies and interests

The desire to travel and experience other cultures is often the motivation to learn a foreign language. If you want to visit a new country, you should know at least the basics of the language spoken by the locals. This will make basic travel activities easier, and most importantly – broaden our knowledge.

So you are wondering which language is the best to learn nowadays? There is no definite answer to this question. It depends on whether you plan to work in another country in the future , you have a family abroad and you also want to emigrate or maybe you dream of visiting specific corners of the world. However, it is worth remembering that learning languages improves memory and enhances thinking processes, so it is worth setting a goal and starting learning!
