Japanese pedicure, or toenail treatment, is becoming increasingly popular among women and even men. It is perfect for brittle, fragile and splitting nails. Find out what it is, how much it costs and whether it can be done at home.

What is the Japanese pedicure?

Japanese pedicure is a method which strengthens and maximally nourishes toenails, and gives them a natural shine. The special paste, which is used in Japanese pedicure, contains natural ingredients: vitamins A, E, H, pro-vitamin B5, keratin, bee pollen and silica from the Japanese Sea. It perfectly supplements the nail plate with essential vitamins, stimulates blood circulation, supports proper growth, prevents flaking and splitting of the plate

Japanese pedicure is currently enjoying growing popularity all over the world. Also in Poland you will find it in the offer of every good beauty salon. The cost of one treatment in a salon ranges from 60 zł to 130 zł.

Japanese pedicure at home

Contrary to appearances, Japanese pedicure is not a complicated procedure, so you can easily do it on your own at home. To perform you will need an appropriate kit, which you can buy in a specialist stationary store or online

It should contain a nourishing paste with vitamins and minerals, protecting and shining powder, two deerskin polishers, a wooden spatula, a file and a double-sided polisher. Such a set is enough to perform several treatments and costs about 100 zł. It is worth adding that the most famous and popular set is made by a Japanese company P. Shine, but in stores you will also find more or less developed versions.

How to do a Japanese pedicure?

Before starting the treatment, first prepare your feet and nails. Pour lukewarm water into a large bowl and add a few drops of olive oil to soften the cuticles. Then use a wooden spatula to push back the cuticles that have grown around the nail plate

Remember not to cut the dried out cuticles, as this can damage the nail matrix. Use a file to shape your nails into the desired shape. When they are ready, buff them with a file. This will allow the nutrients contained in the polish to penetrate into the nail plate much better

Next, apply a small amount of the polish on the polisher and gently rub it into the nail plate for a few minutes. It is worth adding here that the polisher should be rubbed in one direction, then the effect will be more intense and the nail will not be excessively weakened. Now, it is time for powder, which should be rubbed in with a second polisher in order to keep the ingredients contained in the polish and protect them from being quickly washed out from the nail. In addition, the powder protects the plate from the harmful effects of detergents and water, while giving them a pink tint and silky shine. As you can see, this treatment is not difficult, and its performance takes no more than 40 minutes.

Japanese pedicure – effects

Already after the first treatment you will notice the effects, which last up to 2 weeks. However, to really strengthen the nails, it should be performed at least 4 times at intervals of 3 weeks, but not more often. Immediately after the Japanese pedicure, you should not paint your nails. You should wait at least a few days and only then paint the plate with polish. It is also a good idea to completely abandon hybrids for the duration of the treatment or at least for 4-5 days.

When not to use Japanese pedicure?

Japanese pedicure, despite the fact that it has many advantages, sometimes it can harm your nails. If they are very damaged or severely split, it is better to refrain from performing the procedure. Similarly, it’s not a good idea to do a pedicure right after removing acrylic, gel or hybrid nails. In both cases, dulling and polishing the nail plate can weaken it and even the most nourishing paste will not bring the expected improvement.
