Children’s clothes get dirty very often. Children usually eat food that is difficult to wash afterwards. Especially that delicate, allergy-prone skin of children excludes the use of strong detergents. So how to wash the clothes of the youngest?
As a rule, the clothes for babies should be washed separately. Dirt on adult clothes often requires the use of strong detergents. Moreover, baby powders are odourless and very delicate. This is important because for babies the smell of mom is very important. It is good, then, that nothing interferes with it, and parents should also switch to gentler laundry detergents for this time. In addition, the temperature that is designed for washing small clothes is higher. Often washing machines even have a special washing program “babyprotect”, which helps to remove bacteria.
It is best to wash new clothes at least at 60℃, because in the store they are exposed to constant touching. Bacteria on the fabrics can harm the newborn. An extra rinse certainly won’t do any harm, and will remove the detergent more thoroughly. They should also be ironed.
The exceptions are flannel, tetra and bamboo diapers. They get dirty much more, so it’s worth to wash them in a higher temperature 90℃. It’s best to wash newly purchased clothes up to the first year of life. After that, you only need to wash underwear before you put them on for the first time.
Gradually, after the first 3 months, you can switch to washing clothes at 40℃. It is enough to fight dirt, leaves the fabrics in good condition, and also allows the baby to get used to the bacterial flora. It’s worth remembering to use special washing agents for children , which take care of their delicate skin. On the store shelves you can find a lot of them – there are also those adapted to the skin with atopic dermatitis (AD).
Nowadays, almost every washing machine on the market has programs adapted to washing children’s clothes. You can also find options tailored to the level of dirtiness.
Many parents wonder how best to keep their baby safe. Their skin is very delicate and prone to allergens. It is especially important that washing detergents do not contain harmful chemicals, dyes and fragrances.
The amount of detergent used is also not without significance. Overuse of it can lead to rashes. Double rinsing will help in washing delicate fabrics thoroughly.
Washing machines also have programs for sensitive skin that rinse more thoroughly and in specially heated water. Such treatments reduce the likelihood of irritation in children and babies.
Children can sometimes get stains from vomit or faeces that are difficult to remove. What should you do in such a situation? Do not put the fabric in the washing machine straight away, even if it has a programme for tough stains. Rinse the stain with warm water beforehand. This will also prevent the other fabrics in the machine from getting dirty. What is important, it will help to get rid of the stain more effectively.
It is also worth reminding about ironing, which seems to be a thing of the past. Many mothers follow the example of their grandmothers and iron the children’s clothes. High temperature (200℃) kills harmful bacteria and fungi. In addition, it makes it easier to arrange the clothes in the closet, which will save space. Many parents also iron their own clothes out of concern for their baby’s health.
Future parents should invest in a decent washing machine. It will certainly be useful not only in the first months of life. A preschooler often brings heavily soiled clothes – not only with food, but also with difficult to wash grass and art supplies. Modern appliances are also energy efficient and do not damage the clothes. The fabrics will last longer for the little explorer and make life easier for parents.
